Accounting Software in Nepal — Built for VAT, TDS and IRD Reporting
Udyot ERP is a double-entry accounting system made for Nepali businesses: Bikram Sambat dates, 13% VAT, TDS certificates, bank reconciliation, budgets, NFRS reports and IRD-verified e-billing — all in one ledger.

Double-entry accounting that speaks Nepal's tax language
Most accounting software sold in Nepal was built somewhere else and patched for the local market. Udyot starts from the IRD's Rule 23 purchase and sales books, Annex 1 and Annex 13, BS fiscal years and Nepali comma grouping — then adds the reporting a Nepali owner and a Nepali CA actually ask for.
Every sales invoice, purchase, POS sale, payroll run and stock movement posts into the same general ledger. There is no month-end export, no parallel register and no second set of numbers — the trial balance, P&L and balance sheet update as you work.
It is one connected system: pair Accounting with Inventory, POS and HR & Payroll and the books close themselves.

Everything a Nepali finance team needs
From the first journal entry to the year-end audit file — without spreadsheets in between.
Trial balance, P&L and balance sheet on demand, with a Dr = Cr check at the footer and point-in-time reporting for any date.
13% VAT invoices, Rule 23 purchase and sales books, Annex 1/13 exports, TDS sections and a certificate for every party.
CBMS reporting in real time, gap-free BS-year invoice numbers and immutable tax invoices — with a queue when IRD is unavailable.
Bill-by-bill allocation, ageing buckets, outstanding-bill reports, payment reconciliation and printable confirmation letters.
Switch companies and fiscal years from one login, keep five years of history and post into the active BS year with a hard cross-year block.
Capability-based roles, period locks, a logged audit trail and posting rules that prevent silent edits after a year is closed.
A chart of accounts that fits how Nepali books are kept
Groups, ledgers, parties and cost centres — set up once, then every voucher and report follows them.
Closed-set Assets, Liabilities, Income, Expenses and Capital groups come seeded. Add sub-groups to any depth; a sub-group inherits its parent's nature and rolls up into every report.
A ledger under Bank Accounts is a bank automatically, with optional bank name, branch and account number. The ledger list shows opening and closing balance for the active fiscal year and downloads to Excel.
Each party is a ledger under Sundry Debtors or Creditors, typed Customer, Supplier, Both or Other, with PAN and contact details and a party group for region, segment or tier.
Type a name that does not exist in a party picker, create the party in a small form and carry on — it stays selected on the voucher you were entering.
A credit sale that would push a customer past their limit is refused with the exact overage. Leave the limit blank for unlimited credit, or set it to zero for a cash-only customer.
Tag a supplier with one of the nine §88 TDS sections and it pre-selects on every payment. It is a default, not a lock — change or remove it on the voucher.
Tag a customer with a Dealer, wholesale or retail price list and the right sales rate fills in automatically. Rates stay overridable, and purchases always use the base rate.
Create branch or department cost centres with a code and an active flag, ready to feed the Cost Centre Profitability report.
Import parties from CSV or Excel with Udyot, BookKeeper or Tally layouts, a preview before anything is written, duplicate-PAN warnings and row-level error reports. Stock items have their own importer.
Every voucher type posts into the same ledger
Keyboard-first forms for daily entry, each with the checks an accountant expects built in.
Move money between cash, bank and overdraft accounts in one line — Destination, Source and Amount. The pickers offer only cash and bank ledgers, so a one-sided or unbalanced contra cannot be made.
Choose the Receipt Mode (bank or cash), then add one row per payer with its own narration and bill allocation. Receipts can sit on account as advances and can record TDS a customer withheld.
Pick the Payment Mode, then one row per recipient. TDS is deducted per payee, the summary shows gross payment, TDS deducted and net paid, and a payment posts one aggregated TDS Payable leg.
Dr and Cr rows with a live Total Debit, Total Credit and Difference footer. It refuses unbalanced entries, a single line, or the same ledger on both sides, and suggests Contra for pure cash and bank moves.
Pick a customer and item lines; VAT fills from each item and the Invoice Summary shows gross, taxable, VAT and grand total as you type. Invoice numbers are system-assigned in a gap-free series and the ledger posts automatically.
Record the supplier's bill number and date, claim VAT Input and update stock at weighted-average cost. A duplicate bill number for the same supplier raises a warning.
Start from the source invoice and its lines load with a returnable-quantity hint. A return cannot exceed what is left, cannot be dated before the invoice, and a foreign-currency return inherits the invoice's currency and rate.
The mirror for supplier returns, with the same source-bill picker and the same date and quantity limits. The reversed VAT Input and the stock leaving are posted for you.
Payment and Receipt pickers rank parties first, then expense, income, loan and advance heads, and hide tax, equity and cash accounts until you choose Show all accounts. Engine-owned ledgers stay protected.
Numbers such as C/…, R/…, P/…, J/…, S/… and CN/… run per company and restart each fiscal year. BS/AD switching is built in, and posting into a different fiscal year is blocked with a one-click switch.
Accept and save from the keyboard, copy a voucher from its register, press Ctrl+K to jump to a page by name and F11 to switch company. Ctrl+A inside a field selects its text instead of saving.
Preview and print Sales invoices as a formal Tax Invoice with boxed VAT numbers and amount in words, or a Quotation for companies without e-billing. Sales Returns print as a Credit Note with the reference invoice.
From a line item to the ledger — discounts, VAT, units and freight
Each line is priced in a fixed order: quantity × rate, then discount, then excise, then VAT on the net.
Enter a percentage or a flat amount on any line. VAT is charged on the discounted net, never on gross, and the Discount column prints only when an invoice actually uses it.
Every stock item carries its own VAT rate and VAT type. A bill with 13% and exempt lines shows a Mixed rate, and only the taxable lines count as Taxable in the return.
MRP-style items extract VAT from the price you quote so the customer pays exactly the shelf price. Per-line VAT rounds half-up to two decimals.
Apply one trade discount to a whole bill as a percentage or a rupee amount. It comes off after line discounts, VAT recalculates on the reduced net and the party is debited the reduced total.
Buy in Crate and sell in Pcs on the same item. Stock and valuation stay in the base unit, while the voucher remembers the unit you typed.
Capitalise freight into stock cost, split by value or by quantity, so cost of goods sold carries the true cost. Add a late freight bill later with Apply Landed Cost without double-counting.
Add a delivery charge to a sales invoice; it carries VAT where the bill does and credits Delivery Charges Recovered without creating any stock movement.
Turn on a short description under the item name for one voucher type. It belongs to that invoice only, prints as a sub-line and never changes the item master.
Sales and purchases post cost of goods sold and Stock-in-Hand legs automatically. Stock Journal, Stock Write-Off and Physical Stock variances land in dedicated adjustment and write-off expense lines.
Know who owes what — and tie it to the bank
Bill-wise tracking, ageing and reconciliation reports that always agree with the party ledger.
Allocate receipts and payments to specific bills. The form pre-fills oldest-first before you save, Keep on account leaves money unallocated, and an allocation can never exceed the cash moved.
Consolidated, Receivables and Payables views, with a drill-down per party showing each open bill and an On Account block for advances.
Age buckets from 0–30 days upward, true as-of-date reporting and drill-down into each bucket. Every party row reconciles to its ledger balance.
Per party: total billed, total received, net outstanding and days sales outstanding, with sub-grouped parties labelled correctly.
A printable statement per party for any date range, with a Sales Invoice No. or Supplier Bill No. column naming the document behind every line.
A printable balance-confirmation letter on the company letterhead with signature blocks, ready for audit confirmations.
Match unallocated receipts and payments to open bills. Auto-Match proposes oldest-bill-first matches with a confidence figure, and Execute Reconciliation applies them without posting a new entry.
Pick a bank, tick the entries that appear on the statement, type the statement balance and watch the difference fall to Balanced. Uncleared cheques roll into the next period.
A credit note is refunded with a Payment and a debit note with a Receipt; the wrong direction is refused. Advances are consumed by later bills, and deleting a settled purchase releases its allocation.
VAT, TDS, excise and customs — all from the same ledger
Returns, registers and certificates are generated from the vouchers you already posted, net of every return note.
Pick a month and generate the return: output VAT, input VAT and net position, shown as Payable to IRD or Credit Carried Forward. Credit and debit notes are netted from both sides.
Annex 1 Sales Register, Annex 2 Purchase Register and Annex 5 TDS Register for any month, with CN and DN rows shown as negatives and a grand total that ties to the VAT Return.
Per-invoice rows with PAN, party, gross, VAT and total in the बिक्री खाता and खरिद खाता layouts, exportable in IRD CSV format, and reconciled to the VAT Return.
Per-payee section, base and amount on every payment line. The base excludes VAT, both fields are editable, and a deduction above the section ceiling is refused.
Deductions grouped by section with per-section totals for the fiscal year, plus a TDS analysis dashboard showing taxable base and TDS liability per party.
A printable IRD certificate per party and fiscal year with the company's PAN and address, itemised deductions, effective rate, amount in words and a stable certificate number.
Record tax a customer withheld from your invoice or interest. It posts to TDS Receivable, settles the customer gross and lists on its own advance-tax report.
Opt-in per company and per item, per-unit or percentage. Includes an Excise Register, Excise Return, Excise Licences and Excise Rebate, and non-recoverable purchase excise is capitalised into stock.
Key the Pragyapan Patra on a purchase, optionally per item. Duty and fees go into stock cost, import VAT goes to VAT Input and the amount owed to customs stays separate from the supplier.
Statutory reports and the analysis owners ask for
Every report is built from the same postings, so the figures agree wherever you look — and every total drills down to its source voucher.
Opens on cash and bank movement; tick any voucher types, or Select all, for the full day book. The selection lives in the URL so a filtered view can be shared.
Point-in-time, hierarchical and foldable, with Expand all and Collapse all. A red banner flags an opening imbalance and links to Audit opening balances.
NFRS comparative layouts with grouped hierarchy and a previous-period column. Equity labels follow the legal entity type, such as Owner's Capital for a sole proprietorship.
Operating, investing and financing sections for any date range, reconciling to the cash and bank balances on the trial balance.
A multi-ledger view and a single-ledger drill-down with running balance. Click any row to open its source voucher.
Last five closed years side by side: revenue, gross profit, operating profit, net profit, total assets, total equity and EPS for companies that report it, including restated values.
Eleven ratios in four groups — liquidity, profitability, solvency and efficiency — each with its formula, a health band and a plain-English explanation.
Gross profit per item at actual landed cost, net of returns. The NRV Check lists stock whose cost exceeds net realisable value so you can write it down.
Income, expenses and net per cost centre, with untagged lines in an Unallocated bucket so the total always equals the company P&L.
Revalue foreign-currency ledgers to the current rate and post a one-off journal, with gains and losses routed to a Forex Gain/Loss ledger.
Total Sales and Total Purchase show turnover excluding VAT and net of returns, matching the P&L and the Sales Book, with a Revenue and Expense Momentum chart beside them.
Sub-groups nest under parents on the trial balance, P&L and balance sheet, so a deep chart of accounts still reads cleanly and rolls up to the right totals.
Budgets, year-end close and the controls auditors check
Plan the year, lock it when it ends, and keep a trail of every change in between.
Budget income and expense heads for a fiscal year, then lock it. Variance reads favourable, on target or unfavourable within a ±5% band, with the biggest deviations first.
Switch on Enforce budget limits and an expense voucher that would exceed an active budget line is blocked before anything posts. Off by default.
Spread an amount over up to 60 periods with a monthly recognition journal in the right direction, rounding absorbed in the last period and double-posting refused.
Enter or correct opening balances for every ledger and see Balanced or Variance Detected at once. Carry-forward needs the prior year closed and moves only asset and liability balances.
Close a year by date. A closing journal sweeps income and expenses into Capital or Retained Earnings, and vouchers dated inside the closed period are refused.
While a year has not been issued externally, reopen it with a recorded reason, post the correction and close again. The cancelled close stays in the list as history.
Once a year is AGM-approved or filed, post a restatement voucher inside that year with a reason and disclosure note. It lists in the NFRS Restatements register and flows into the next opening balance sheet.
Switch Company from the sidebar or F11, switch fiscal year from the header pill, and add previous or next years on demand. Each company keeps its own sequence and chart.
An issued Sales invoice or Sales Return cannot be edited, cancelled or deleted, keeping the IRD series gap-free. Corrections use counter-documents; Auditor Mode is an opt-in exception for non-CBMS companies.
Per-voucher-type permissions and capabilities such as period close. An auditor role is read-only with an audit date window that limits report dates.
An append-only record of every create, edit and delete with who, when and old versus new values, filterable by user, date and entity type.
Export masters and openings to XML and import them into another company; vouchers never travel. Every voucher leg must belong to the posting company.
Loans, deposits, assets and bad debts — booked correctly
No extra module needed: the right ledger groups and the standard vouchers carry these scenarios through to the correct reports.
Book the disbursement as a liability, split each EMI into principal and interest in one payment, and post overdraft interest by journal. The balance sheet rolls up both banks under Loans.
Place a fixed deposit as an asset transfer, then record interest gross with the tax withheld going to TDS Receivable, so income is never understated.
Purchase, year-end depreciation to an accumulated-depreciation contra, revaluation to a reserve instead of profit, and a single disposal journal that clears cost and depreciation.
Receive or pay on account before any bill exists, see it in the AR/AP summary as an advance, and consume it later through Payment Reconciliation.
Write off a customer by journal so the account closes and ageing drops them, then book any later recovery to Bad Debts Recovered income rather than the closed customer.
Bill in a foreign currency, revalue balances at period end, and return goods at the original transaction rate because the return form locks currency and exchange rate to the source invoice.
From daily entry to a filed return
Nepal compliance is the default, not an add-on
Nepali businesses do not need a localisation plugin to use Udyot. The rules are built into the ledger: 13% VAT on taxable supplies, exempt and zero-rated lines, TDS withheld at source, Rule 23 registers in the IRD's own column format, and a fiscal year that runs Shrawan to Ashadh. Credit and debit notes net every filed report, so the figure you file with the IRD always matches your books.
