Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
Material Requirements Planning (MRP) answers the two questions every manufacturer asks: what should I make, and what should I buy? Udyot’s MRP reads your real sales demand, subtracts what you already have and what is already planned, and tells you exactly where you are short.
Before you begin
MRP works best when you have open Sales Orders, current stock balances, and BOMs for the products you make. Open Manufacturing → MRP.
How MRP calculates shortages
For each item, Udyot computes:
- Gross demand — remaining quantity across all open Sales Orders.
- On hand — current stock in the selected godown.
- Planned supply — remaining quantity on open Production Orders.
- Net shortage = demand − on hand − planned supply.
Make or buy recommendations
For every item with a real shortage, Udyot recommends:
- Make — when the item is the output of an active BOM. Udyot suggests a run quantity (rounded up to a whole batch) and gives you a one-click link to create a Production Order pre-filled with the shortage.
- Buy — when there is no BOM. A one-click link creates a Material Request to procure it.
Tips & common questions
Does MRP look at one warehouse or all? You choose a godown to plan against. Multi-warehouse netting is planned for a future release.
Why is an item not showing? By default MRP hides items that are fully covered. Toggle “Show covered items” to see everything.
