Point of Sale Overview
The Point of Sale module is your mart counter — a fast, keyboard-first sell screen for retail businesses running on Udyot ERP. It is not a separate billing app with its own books: every completed sale posts a real Sales invoice and a Receipt through the same accounting engine as a hand-keyed voucher. Your general ledger, VAT registers, and stock levels are identical to the paisa whether a sale came from the till or the back office.
What you can do at the counter
- Sell fast — by item search, barcode scan, quick-key tile, or weighed PLU for by-the-kilo goods.
- Take any tender — cash, card, wallet, gift card, or a split across several.
- Serve both kinds of customer — anonymous walk-ins (who must pay in full) and named credit customers (who may part-pay).
- Run disciplined shifts — an opening float, a counted closing drawer, and a Z-report with automatic over/short posting.
- Handle returns properly — every counter return posts a real Credit Note, capped at what was originally billed.
- Run promotions, coupons, and a loyalty program, and sell or redeem gift cards with correct liability accounting.
- Park a basket on one till and finish it on another with a pickup code.
- Watch it live — a self-refreshing dashboard and sales analytics, all net of returns.
What the POS needs to run
The module requires Accounting and Inventory to be active, because it sells real stock and posts real vouchers. The register only sells what is on hand at the till’s godown — it refuses to oversell, which is how your stock records stay trustworthy.
IRD e-billing (CBMS)
Udyot ERP is IRD-verified with CBMS integration: with e-billing enabled for your company, every counter bill reports to the IRD’s central system in real time. If the connection drops, selling never stops — bills queue and re-sync automatically with their original date and time, flagged as batch submissions the way the procedure requires.
Why “real invoices” matters
Many standalone billing counters keep their own totals and push a summary to accounts later — which is exactly where books drift apart from reality. In Udyot ERP the counter is the accounting system: a sale moves stock at cost, computes VAT on the discounted amount (the Nepal rule), posts the revenue, and records the tender — all in one atomic step. An issued tax invoice is final under Nepal’s VAT rules, so corrections happen through Credit Notes, never silent edits.
