POS Promotions, Loyalty and Gift Cards

The POS ships three revenue tools — promotions, a loyalty program, and gift cards — all wired into the same accounting engine as everything else, so discounts trim VAT correctly and stored value sits on the books as the liability it really is.

Promotions and coupons

Automatic promotions simply appear as a green line on qualifying carts — the cashier does nothing. Coupon promotions need a code: type it in the Coupon box (case does not matter), see ✓ applied, and the receipt prints the code.

Two guardrails apply:

  • A coupon cannot push the total discount past the store’s maximum-discount ceiling — it is trimmed to fit and the register says so.
  • VAT always recomputes on the discounted amount, whatever combination of discounts produced it.

The Promotions list shows each promo’s Used count and Given — the total rupees actually discounted, the capped and trimmed reality rather than the nominal rate.

Loyalty

  1. Type the member’s phone number in the Member row and hit Find — their points balance appears.
  2. Enter points to redeem; the value comes off the bill and VAT recomputes.
  3. Points earn automatically on what the customer actually pays.

The receipt prints points redeemed, points earned, and the new balance — the member walks away knowing exactly where they stand.

Gift cards — stored value done right

Sell prepaid value with the 🎁 Gift card button: the customer pays now and gets a code. Here is the part many systems get wrong: no VAT or sales revenue is recognised at that moment. A sold card is stored value — a liability on your books. Revenue and VAT post when the card is spent.

To redeem, choose the Gift card tab at payment, type the code, Check the live balance, and apply an amount. A card never gives change. Returns can be refunded onto a fresh card instead of cash.

Manage everything at POS → Setup → Gift Cards — card history, voiding (remaining value becomes breakage income), and your cash-out policy.

This is also why selling a gift card never inflates your sales figures: the cash counts in your drawer and Z-report, but sales and VAT wait for redemption. Your dashboard reflects the same treatment.
